Special screening of the film “Beware the Slenderman”

MARLBORO- Marlboro College presents a special screening of the HBO film “Beware the Slenderman,” followed by a Q&A with producer Sophie Harris, on Tuesday, October 2, at 6:30 pm. The screening will take place in Ragle Hall, Serkin Center for the Performing Arts, 2582 South Road, and is open to the public and free of charge.
“Beware the Slenderman” tells the true story of the internet’s elusive Boogieman and two 12-year-old girls who would kill for him.
Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier lured their best friend into the woods, stabbed her 19 times, then set out on an odyssey to meet the tall and faceless man known online as Slenderman.
Shot over 18 months with heartbreaking access to the families of the would-be murderers, the film plunges deep down the rabbit hole of their crime, to a boogieman and society’s most impressionable consumers of media. The entrance to the internet can quickly lead to its dark basement in just a matter of clicks.
Harris was nominated for an Emmy award for her research on the legacy of polio for the Oscar-nominated short film “The Final Inch.” She helped to produce and edit “How to Die in Oregon,” about Oregon’s aid-in-dying law, which won the grand jury prize at Sundance and received an Emmy nomination for documentary of the year.
