Play airs at the Clark
Williamstown, Ma- Olivier Award winners Lindsay Duncan and Alex Jennings star in “Hansard,” a new play from Simon Woods, airing at the Clark Art Institute on Saturday, January 4, at 1 pm.
Set in 1988 and named for the official record of Parliamentary proceedings, the play provides a witty and devastating portrait of Great Britain’s governing class. Tory politician Robin Hesketh and his wife of 30 years, Diana, are spending a summer’s weekend in their idyllic Cotswold house. But a day that starts with gentle ribbing and the familiar rhythms of marital scrapping quickly turns to blood sport as secrets and resentments are revealed.
Called “deliciously witty” (Broadway World) and “touching and illuminating” (The Times), with performances that “simply take the breath away” (WhatsOnStage), “Hansard” is directed by Simon Godwin and is part of National Theatre Live’s 10th birthday season.
Recorded live, the broadcasts at the Clark are shown on an encore basis to accommodate weekend scheduling.
Tickets are $18 ($16 for Clark members) and can be purchased at clarkart.edu or by phoning (413) 458-0524.
