Auditions for “Cabaret”

WILMINGTON- Auditions for Deerfield Valley Players’ production of “Cabaret” will be held at Memorial Hall, 14 West Main Street, on Wednesday, March 20, from 5:30 to 8 pm.  Auditions will also be held on Thursday and Friday, March 21 and 22, in the community room of the Brattleboro Savings and Loan, 221 Main Street, Brattleboro, from 5:30 to 8 pm. Participants must be prepared to sing a song of choice, and a song from “Cabaret” (16 bars each).  Accompaniment will be provided.
Performance dates are August 1,2, and 3 in Memorial Hall.  Rehearsals will be held in Whitingham and Wilmington during June and July.  Director will be Reed Brown, head of the theater department at Cerritos College in Los Angeles.  Musical  direction will be by Barbara Lipstadt.
The action takes place in Berlin, 1929, on the eve of the Third Reich. Music is by Fred Ebb, with lyrics by John Kander.
Roles to be filled include: Sally Bowles,  English cabaret singer; Clifford Bradshaw, American author; Ernst Ludwig, German citizen; Fraulein Kost, a young woman of negotiable affections residing in Frau Schneider’s rooming house; Victor and Bobby, waiters in the Kit Kat Klub; passport control officer; Kit Kat Klub dancers; and patrons in the cabaret and guests at an engagement party. The roles of the master of ceremonies, Fraulein Schneider, and Herr Schultz are pre-cast.
