“You Can’t Beat the House”

TOWNSHEND- Leland & Gray Summer Theater will present a culminating performance of “You Can’t Beat The House,” by Pat Cook Friday, July 6, and Saturday, July 7 at 3 pm, in the Leland & Gray Dutton gymnasium on Route 30.
After 10 successful summers of performing arts exploration, a theater camp for students entering fifth- through eighth-grades, directors Abby Wicker and Karlie Kauffeld decided it was time to offer a theater experience for high school students. In its inaugural session Leland & Gray summer theater offers students the opportunity to experience an intensive acting experience while putting on a full length show in just two weeks.
Summer theater staff includes alumni Nathaniel VanOsdol and Susie Francy as assistant directors.
The unofficial theme of camp this year has been “That’s scary? Do it anyway!” Campers have really taken hold of the show as their own. Taking risks developing characters and learning new acting techniques brings a sense of depth under the comedic writing. Campers were asked to take creative risks and they’ve responded accordingly, pushing staff to do the same in return. The campers are involved in all aspects of the production. When they aren’t on stage rehearsing they work on all aspects of production including costumes, building sets, props, lights, and sound effects.
Participants include Emma Kelly, Trey Crego, Andrew Tolbert, Izzy Jarvis-Stores, Jesse Dykes, Aryanna Pearson, James Jarvis-Stores, Peter Broussard, Hazel Seiden, and Spencer Butinski.
Admission is by donation. For more information contact Abby Wicker at wickerabby@gmail.com or (802) 258-1161.
