“Making Circus That Matters” all weekend
BRATTLEBORO- New England Center for Circus Arts’ 24th Circus Workshop Weekend is November 8 to 10. NECCA is offering its ever-popular workshops in two- and three-hour discipline-specific classes as usual, but they’re also adding shows, seminars, and conversations with an overarching theme of “Making Circus That Matters.”
Students can sign up for workshops and programming taking place from Friday at 9 am until Sunday at 5:30 pm. There are courses for beginners alongside more advanced programming for those with experience.
Performances include a variety of circus arts and powerful artistry with three different offerings on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the NECCA Trapezium.
Friday, November 8, at 7:30 pm: The award-winning Almanac Circus Dance Theater will present the autobiographically-inspired circus fantasia “XOXO Moongirl.” This solo show won accolades at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and a Barrymore Award in performer Nicole Burgio’s hometown of Philadelphia.
Saturday, November 9, at 8 pm: Circus Cabaret is an opportunity for guest performers from all over the country to show off their polished acts within the theme “Circus That Matters.” Join Jenna Ciotta, Toby MacNutt, Rachel Rees, Cheya Potter, and more performers for a diverse spectacle of the circus arts.
Sunday, November 10, at 7 pm: Beta Night is NECCA’s monthly presentation of new pieces and works-in-progress, aiming to encourage artistic risk-taking, creativity, and play in a welcoming and supportive environment. Admission is free, though donations are always welcome. These presentations are for all ages unless otherwise stated.
