Tournament pairings out, Wildcats earn top seed

WHITINGHAM- The Twin Valley boys' varsity basketball team now has the number one seed in the Vermont division 4 tournament. Twin Valley (18-2) secured the top seed with a 52-46 win over Rivendell (18-2) Friday evening.

The Vermont Principals Association released the tournament pairings earlier today. Twin Valley received a first-round bye and will host a quarterfinal round game Friday at 7 pm.. The Wildcats will play the winner of Wednesdays' game between No. 8 Websterville Christian School (10-8) and No. 9 Sharon Academy (11-9), which will be played at Spaulding High School in Barre.

Rivendell dropped out of the top seed with the loss to the Wildcats and will host No. 15 Black River (0-18) Wednesday. Proctor (18-2) is the third seed in D4 and will host No. 14 Arlington (7-13) Wednesday. Defending champion Danville (15-5), seeded fourth, will host No. 13 Richford on Tuesday.

Other local teams playing tournament games this week include D3 Leland & Gray (2-18) which will travel to top-seeded Hazen (16-4) Tuesday. Bellows Falls (13-7) earned the third seed in D3 and will host Oxbow (3-17) Wednesday evening. Tenth-seeded Green Mountain (9-11) will travel to No. 7 Thetford (10-10) on Wednesday. No. 9 Windsor (7-13) will face No. 8 Stowe (11-9) on Tuesday.

In division 2, Springfield (7-13) is seeded 15th and will face second-seeded U-32 (18-2) Wednesday. In D1, Brattleboro (13-7) has the sixth seed and will host No. 11 Essex (6-14) on Wednesday. No. 10 Burr & Burton (8-12) will travel to face No. 7 BFA St. Albans (13-7) on Tuesday.
