Ice fishing derby a big success

BRATTLEBORO- The Southern Vermont Therapeutic Riding Center  held its second annual ice fishing derby on Saturday, January 25, on the Retreat Meadows. More than 50 anglers participated in the derby, and raised over $300 for the program.
Grand prizes for each of the four categories: Adult longest panfish, Wesley Dow won $100 donated by SVTRC; adult longest “other” fish, Cody Koncal won an ice fishing prize pack (over $100 value) donated by Runnings; junior longest panfish, Cody Hescock won $100 donated by SVTRC; junior longest “other” fish, Kyler Chouinard also won an ice fishing prize pack (over $100 value) donated by Runnings.
The following sponsors donated door raffle items: Sonny’s Cup n’ Saucer, WW Building Supply, Brown and Roberts, Whetstone Station Restaurant, Sam’s Outdoor Outfitters, Bittersweet Memories Bakery and Cafe, the Fitzpatrick family, Walmart, and Earle’s Bait Shop. Dunkin’ of Canal Street donated coffee and doughnuts for breakfast.
SVTRC, based in Wilmington, provides equine assisted activities and therapies to children and adults with various physical, emotional, and cognitive needs who live in the area. SVTRC partners with area organizations such as the HCRS, Families First, Kindle Farm, local elementary and high schools, as well as with individuals and their families. At any one time, it is providing programming to as many as 30 youth and adults, with three equine partners. Events such as this make it possible for individuals to participate when otherwise they would be unable due to financial restrictions. Currently 96% of participants receive a subsidized lesson rate.
