Like father, like son: Generations lay claim to soccer titles

WHITINGHAM- When the Twin Valley Wildcats won the division 4 state soccer championship last month, it was the fifth boy’s title in the 17 years since Wilmington and Whitingham merged to create Twin Valley High School. It was the 12th overall boys’ soccer title for Wilmington and Twin Valley combined, with 10 of them under coach Buddy Hayford. While researching the numbers, Hayford noticed one interesting statistic, something that has been a rare occurrence despite the sustained success of the local high school soccer programs over the past four-plus decades.
