Two-and-a-half years ago, Gov. Phil Scott signed a bill into law that renamed Columbus Day Indigenous Peoples Day in Vermont. For many in Vermont that was a big moment in this little state’s history, because it completed an effort to correct the historical record of one of the country’s more controversial federal holidays.
