Scott J. Meade
COLCHESTER- Scott Jesse Meade died Tuesday, January 1, at the McClure Miller Respite House following a long battle with cancer. Mr. Meade was born May 15, 1960, in Bennington, to Thomas and Shirley (Johnson) Meade. He was raised in Dover, attending Dover Elementary School. He was a 1978 graduate of Wilmington High School. Mr. Meade was an outstanding athlete. He was a star soccer player and a member of the 1977 Wilmington High School boys’ Class M State Championship soccer team. He excelled as a ski racer and was a member of the Mount Snow racing team.
Mr. Meade spent time in Colorado where he continued to race and coach and was a member of the US Ski Team in the mid-1990s. While in Colorado, he met Katie Langell and they were married on February 14, 2002. They moved to Vermont, residing in West Dover and then in Shelburne for the last seven years.
Mr. Meade was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Shirley, son Zachary, and nephew Bryan Hampshire. He is survived by his wife Katie, son Alex, and daughter Leah. He is also survived by his sisters Tallu Meade, of Wardsboro, and Nancy Meade, of Kalamazoo, MI; brother Jim Amodio, of Syracuse, NY; nephews Jesse Hampshire and David Haight; and nieces Katelyn Vervynckt and Kylie Gordon.
A private family service will be held Saturday, January 5, in Colchester. A celebration of Mr. Meade’s life will be held in Dover in the summer of 2019.
