Sarah McCluskey

ORANGEBURG, NY- Sarah (Sadie) McCluskey, 82, was called home by God on January 12, 2019.  She died peacefully in her sleep at her home.
Born in 1936 in Emyvale, County Monaghan, Ireland, the eldest daughter  of seven children, Mrs. McCluskey left Ireland in 1954 to join her oldest brother in New York.  She soon found work as a switchboard operator for TWA, and later found her life-long love, another Monaghan native.  In 1958 she married James (Jim)McCluskey and lived in the Bronx and later, Orangeburg, where together they raised four sons.  Sadie was preceeded in death by Jim in 2004, and is survived by her four children, John (Meg), of Lincoln, MA and West Dover, VT, Jimmy (Terri), of Orangeburg, NY, Philip (Heidi) of Plainfield, IL, and Colin (Kim) of Denver, CO; as well as grandchildren Aileen, James, Deirdre, Emily, Brendan, Sarah, Russell, and Cassie.  She is also survived by her sister Clare (Monaghan, Ireland), and brother Kenneth (Vancouver, Canada).  
Mrs. McCluskey enjoyed sewing, gardening, knitting, her time teaching at Toddler Playpen Nursery School, and living in Florida. She was famous for her apple pie and taught her grandchildren how to make a fabulous Irish soda bread.  Most of all she loved and enjoyed her family and her home.
A funeral mass was held at St. Catherine’s, Blauvelt, on Tuesday, January 15.  In lieu of flowers donations are encouraged to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956.
