Sandra M. Lackey

WILMINGTON- Sandra M. Bickford Lackey,  77, died peacefully Friday, March 13, following years of declining health. She was born in Wilmington in 1943 to Stella and Wallace Bickford. She attended Wilmington High School and later achieved her degree in nursing. Mrs. Lackey  married young and had four children, Jacqueline Lackey, Lorri Lackey Hall, Russell Lackey, and Chad Lackey. Besides being a homemaker and mom, she waitressed and worked a few years at GS Precision in Wilmington. Ultimately she retired as a charge nurse from The Centers of Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.
Mrs. Lackey had many friends there who also had a part in her care these last years. They all had stories of how caring she was and told of some of her shenanigans. She loved her cats, painting, gardening, sewing, crafts, and cleaning.  She especially loved vacuuming.
Besides her four children, she is survived by her loving sister Burdys Crawford, of  Readsboro; her daughters-in-love Cathy Flower and Anne Cunningham; her cherished grandchildren (who know her as Grammie nuts), Riley and Mitchell Hall, Alexander Lackey, and Trey Cunningham, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She also leaves her best friend of many years, Marcia Armstrong Connelly (the family is going to miss the way they laughed together).
There will be no services at her request.  She will join her mother Stella and two sisters, Ruthie and Betty, under the pear trees at a small family gathering.
