Roberta E. Rafus
CAMBRIDGE, NY- Roberta E. Rafus, 89, a former resident of Wilmington, VT, died peacefully at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT, on Tuesday, August 18.
For the past several years she had resided in New York state, most recently in Cambridge and Hoosick Falls. The daughter of James and Ethel (McKnight) McFarlane, was born in Berlin, NH, on September 14, 1930. She grew up in Wilmington, VT, where she attended local schools and began her family. She was a licensed nursing assistant and had provided care for many patients over the years in area nursing facilities including Crescent Manor and Prospect Nursing Home. Mrs. Rafus spent her leisure time crocheting and enjoying the company of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved the outdoors, especially working around her yard.
She leaves three sons, Ed (Cherie) Rafus, of Westfield, MA, Ray (Shelly) Rafus, of Northville, and Greg (Phyllis) Rafus, of White Creek; grandchildren Scot Rafus, Marc Rafus, Bridget Rafus, Marie Rafus, Rachel Derkowski, Chris Rafus, Nicole Hathaway, Erica Rafus, Courtney Rafus, and Derek Rafus; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by two sons, Edwin Jr. and Floyd, her brother John McFarlane, and sister Gertrude Berg.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, August 24, at 1 pm in the Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington, VT.
