Paul Matt

WARDSBORO - Paul Matt, 67, known to all as Pauly, of Fay Boyden Road in West Wardsboro, died peacefully on May 5 at Grace Cottage Hospital. He was born in Ocho Rios, Jamaica on February 18, 1958 to Edward Matt and Sarah Irish, who died before him. He was also preceded in death by sisters Elaine and Febilyn, both of Jamaica. After coming to the United States, Pauly helped support his family in Jamaica.
Pauly came to Vermont in 1981 and became a permanent resident alien in 1983. Over the years he worked at Stratton Mountain ski area, Brattleboro Roofing, Larry Brown Excavating, Mount Snow, and the Haystack Golf Course. Most recently he worked at the midstation of the Stag’s Leap lift at the Hermitage Club ski area. Pauly also performed caretaking services for several property owners in the Deerfield Valley.
Pauly was known around town as a very friendly and hard-working man. He was well known to many people for his happy-go-lucky attitude and was often seen at 7-Eleven in conversation with friends.
