Milton R. York

READSBORO- Milton Robert “Tweed” York, 79, died on Thursday, February 4, at Centers for Living and Rehab in Bennington.
He was born in North Adams, MA, on August 15, 1941, a son of Milton S. and Naomi Hattie (Ayers) York.  He attended the Readsboro School and graduated from Drury High School.  He was a veteran of the Vermont National Guard where he served for six years. Mr. York was last employed by Sawyer Bentwood until his retirement. Before that, he worked at Vermont Hardwoods for many years.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Readsboro.  He was a 54-year member of the American Legion Post #29 in Readsboro and was also a member of the Greylock Community Club. Survivors include two sisters, Gertrude “Betty” Sprague and Susan (Roger) Brown, both of Readsboro. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and his two best friends, Robert Bosley and William “Buzz” Wheeler.  He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, David S. and Agnes York, and his brother-in-law, Gilbert “Gibby” Sprague.
A memorial service for Mr. York will be held at the Readsboro Baptist Church at a later date.  Burial will be in the Village Cemetery in the spring.  Memorial donations may be made to American Legion Post #29 in care of Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA 01247.  To add to the book of memories visit www.flynndagnolifuneralhomes.com.
