Matthew Houston

READSBORO - Matthew Neal Houston 83, formerly of Milford, CT, died Sunday, September 18, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Waterbury, CT, on April 14, 1939, the only son of Matthew and Kathryn (Dews) Houston. He attended school in Connecticut, followed by Michigan State University. Neal was a proud, decorated veteran of the Army. He served during the Vietnam era. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 196 in Milford and later Post 29 in Readsboro.
He was married for 63 years to his beloved wife, Marie (Kossbiel), and resided in Milford, CT, with his family before retiring to his beloved land and community in Readsboro.
He had a long and successful career as a parts department manager for Cooke’s Equipment  - International Harvester - in Wallingford, CT, and later at Rae Bearing/BDI Bearing Distributors in New Haven, CT.      
A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, he raced professionally and was a charter member of the Milford Riders Motorcycle Club. He was a master mechanic who generously shared his knowledge and skills. His other passions were horses, dogs, and farming.
In addition to his wife, Neal is survived by daughters Michele Houston and Marnie Mezick (Billy); grandchildren Kayleigh Distefano (Kevin Muniz), Thomas LaDore (Alisha), Tyler LaDore, Ashley LaDore, Matt Mezick (Jenn), and Alicia Mezick; and great-grandchildren Sadie, Parker, and Hudson LaDore. He was preceded in death by Stephanie Mezick.  
At Neal’s request there will be no funeral services. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 8, at 11 am at Saint Joachim Parish Hall, Tunnel Street.
