Jane M. (Bosley) Boyd
Jane M. (Bosley) Boyd (80) of Town Hill Road in Whitingham passed away peacefully at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vermont on June 21, 2023, after a brief period of declining health.
Born on July 5, 1942, in North Adams, MA, the daughter of the late William E. Bosley and Myrtle E. (Berard) Bosley. Jane grew up on Bosley hill in Readsboro, attended Readsboro School and graduated from Whitingham High School as president of the first class to graduate from the new Whitingham School Facility in 1960.
At a young age, Jane learned how to play piano. Although she professed to not know how to read music, she could usually play any song requested. In her teen years she played piano and organ at the Readsboro Baptist Church as well as regular dance recitals and other local events.
Jane was proud to be trained at the Henry Bishop School of Nursing in Pittsfield, MA. She became the School Nurse and Town Nurse in Whitingham and served for nearly 50 years, fondly known as “Nurse Jane.” Her natural skill for healing, mending, counseling, and cuddling her patients and friends of every age, provided warm comfort for everyone she touched. She spent many years and travelled many miles making house calls to care for the elderly and the sick and to provide end of life support for those in need, no matter the day of the week or the weather.
Jane married Donald Boyd of Whitingham on October 12, 1963, in Readsboro. She lived on Sadawga Lake and Town Hill in Whitingham for 60 years where she raised her family and welcomed visitors all days and all hours. Jane knew how to have fun. She often entertained her guests by playing her accordion and singing late into the night. Summer clambakes are still remembered by family and friends as a noteworthy annual event where the true meaning of “fun was had by all” will not be forgotten.
In 1980 Maria Theresa Gonzalez, a student from Chile, became a part of Jane’s family. A highlight of her life was a trip to Chile in 2006 to visit Maria and meet her extended family on the coast of South America. Another memorable trip included a Caribbean cruise that Jane hosted for her family 2012.
Family over everything. Jane was a quietly powerful head of the family. Her most treasured time was spent with her family. Intimate gatherings at home or away were always special. In recent years, “Jane’s Deck” was the place to find her. Food, fun, and laughter were always on the menu. Friends were always welcome to sit and chat and watch her remarkable collection of wild birds with a view of Sadawga Lake.
Jane is survived by her husband Donald Boyd and her children, Naomi Bolognani and husband Richard and Seth Boyd and wife Kerri, all of Whitingham, her grandchildren, Tarryn Schneider and husband Keith of Center Rutland, Vermont, Skyler Boyd of Muskego, Wisconsin and Sadie Boyd of Whitingham, her great grandchildren, Taden and Karver Schneider, her brother, Robert Bosley and wife Isabel of Readsboro. Jane’s grandson Jarred Bolognani passed away in 2016. Her brother Edward Bosley and sister Joyce Russel also passed before her.
Memorial services will include an open-house celebration of her life at her home at 103 Town Hill Road on Saturday July 8, 2023, from 1:00-4:00pm. Refreshments will be served. Jane’s wish was for music, laughter, and memories.
For those who desire, Jane requested memorial contributions to Jarred Richard Bolognani Memorial Scholarship Fund, 167 Saddada Road, Whitingham, VT 05361 or to Whitingham Church.
