George Albert Tanner

CLAYSVILLE, PA - George Albert Tanner, 90, of Claysville, died at home on Thursday, July 7, surrounded by family.
George was born August 21, 1931, in Vermont, to the late Charlotte and George Tanner. He had a bachelor’s degree from Castleton University and received his master’s degree from Michigan State University. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
George taught science early in his career and concluded working for the state of Vermont Education Department. In his free time he enjoyed sailing, flying, fishing, golfing, rally racing, and anything outdoors. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He accompanied them in any activities they participated in. He spent his retirement years in Mayer, AZ, and Claysville.
He leaves behind children Dianne and David Tanner, of Vermont, whom he had with his late wife Margaret; and stepchildren Rebecca, Barry, Elizabeth, and Rachel Sweet, with his wife of 36 years, Barbara Sweet. Together they raised their grandchild Whitney Lewicki, and have enjoyed their other grandchildren, Ben Dryer, Lydia Szklinski, and Wesley and Theo Sweet. He also leaves behind sister Reita Havreluk, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
