Dorothea M. DePalo

WHITINGHAM- Dorothea M. DePalo, 83, a resident of Maple Hill Lane, died Tuesday, September 17, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center surrounded by her family. Mrs. DePalo was born in Queens, NY on April 29, 1936, the daughter of Walter and Else Lehr Haug. She attended Long Island College of Nursing and earned her bachelor’s degree from Caldwell College. She worked as a registered nurse early in her career. She was an active member of her community and enjoyed volunteering for local organizations that serve others. She was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting, sewing, and baking. She loved the opera, classical music, and all things German. Her true passion was spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She had many talents and interests and brought her kind heart and gentle spirit to all she knew.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Michael DePalo, whom she married September 12, 1959 in New York; her children Michael DePalo, of Whitingham, Victoria Zimmon of Groton, MA, Stephanie DiGiacopo and her husband Gottardo, of Mahwah, NJ, and Alisa Jarski and her husband Stephen, of Westwood, NJ; her sister Ingeborg DiGiacomo and her husband Rudy, of Rockaway, NJ; and her grandchildren Devin, Else, Carl, Will, Annalise, Kayla, and Ryan. She also leaves six nieces and eight nephews.
A celebration of  Mrs. DePalo’s life will take place on Saturday, October 12, at 1pm at the Jacksonville Community Church.
