David Powell

WHITINGHAM - David Allen Powell was born on November 28, 1953, in Mount Holly, NJ. He was born the second of seven children to Howard and Gladys Powell. David spent his early years in New Jersey until the family moved to the Philippines when he was 8 years old. After some missionary work there for several years, the family bought Sky Farm in Whitingham. He completed high school at Whitingham School, graduating in 1971.
He worked in construction his entire life, first for others and then eventually starting his own very successful company. He was talented in his craft and, with many of the houses that he built, restored or renovated, he became fast friends with the owners. He loved to travel to tropical locations and relax on the beach, if he wasn’t at home gardening or mowing the lawn.
David was diagnosed with brain cancer in October 2021 and died on Saturday, March 26, at age 68, in his home surrounded by his loving children Pam Bernier, David Powell Jr., Sarah Slade and wife Kendy Slade, who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. He is survived by his five grandchildren; five siblings; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunties, and uncles.
David’s goodness, kind heart, smile, and sweetness will be honored in a celebration of life. The date is yet to be determined but will be open to all and sometime when it’s warmer outside. The family will keep people posted on full details about the celebration of life.
