Barbara Ann Bird

BERNARDSTON, MA- Barbara “Barb” Anne (Howes) Bird, 68, died February 2 after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born October 5, 1952 in Greenfield to Roger and Alice (Beecher) Howes.  She married Francis “Chick” Bird in August 1970.  They were married for over 40 years and had one child, Jeremy Bird.
She lived in Wilmington, VT, for the majority of her life. She loved to bake and also enjoyed quilting, crafts, art, reading, and most of all, going on outings with her “girls.”  Some have said she had greater joy in giving her pies and breads to others than actually baking them.
For many years she worked at Dot’s Restaurant and The Cup & Saucer in Wilmington. She was also a hairdresser at Wilson’s and Peter’s Hair Loft, both in Greenfield.
Anyone who knew her knew her kindness and her infectious laugh and smile.  She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was preceded in death in 2014 by her husband Chick.  She is survived by her son Jeremy Bird and his wife Joanne, of Bernardston; brother Jason Howes and his wife Jackie, of Jacksonville. brother Barry Howes and his partner Paula Houghton, of Readsboro, VT; grandchildren Jakob Bird, Ethan Jackson, and Jadyn Bird; and many other friends and family. All of them she loved and touched deeply.
There will be no services at this time. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.
The family would like to express thanks for the wonderful help and care given by Franklin County Hospice and the many friends and family who visited and supported Mrs. Bird.
