Avis D. Pickering

PALM BAY, FL- Avis D. Pickering, 92, of Stratton, died on Tuesday, March 19, at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, surrounded by family. She was born in Boston on March 4, 1927.
Mrs. Pickering (Nono, The Mayor, Budget, Mama Pick) was known for her love of a great party, a good joke, and a strong whiskey sour (only on the weekends). She lived for the fall football season and her beloved New England Patriots. Her green thumb will continue to be envied and enjoyed by many. She always had an open door for family and friends, a welcoming smile, and a warm hug with a freshly baked loaf of shredded wheat bread. She was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her. As she always said, she is “on the road again.”
Mrs. Pickering will be deeply missed by her daughter Amy Howell; son James Marsh Pickering (Maria); granddaughters Kristine Howell McAllister (Michael), Jessica Whitney Webb (Chad), and Kate Gentes; grandson Joshua Gentes; great-granddaughters Charlotte Watt and Kylee McAllister; brother Porter S. Dickinson (Sally); and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Pickering was preceded in death by her parents Charles Porter Dickinson and Lillian Leeman Dickinson; her husband of 61 years, Earl Bartlett Pickering Jr.; and son Edward Bartlett Pickering.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Grace Cottage Foundation, PO Box 1, Townshend, VT 05353.
