Winter ticks, brainworms threaten area moose populations

WILMINGTON - During a presentation hosted by the Hogback Mountain Conservation Association titled “Tiny Threats to our Biggest Mammals,” Scott Darling, of Vermont Fishing and Wildlife, told a crowd gathered at Memorial Hall on Wednesday that brainworm and winter ticks have been attacking Vermont’s moose population. Darling said that Vermont Fishing and Wildlife has determined that controlling the moose population may help, at least with the tick problem.
