Whitingham lawsuit appeal heading to supreme court

Vermont Supreme Court Justices will hear an appeal in Boyd, et al, on Wednesday, January 26.

MONTPELIER- The Vermont Supreme Court will hear arguments in an appeal of a lower court ruling in an education funding lawsuit filed by the town of Whitingham.
Originally filed in 2017, the suit claims three plaintiffs, Whitingham student Sadie Boyd, Whitingham taxpayer Madeline Klein, and the town itself are harmed by an unconstitutional system of school funding and taxation.  In a July 2021 ruling in Windham Superior Court, Judge Katherine A. Hayes granted a motion for summary judgment filed by attorneys for the state of Vermont.
