Resident accuses school board of creating “slush fund”

HALIFAX - During their informational hearing on Tuesday, April 26, the Halifax School District presented their budget for fiscal year 2023.
The budget rose by nearly $350,000, landing at $2,152,350. However, most of that increase was due to changes in special education funding under Act 173. As a result, the total education spending, or expenditures minus revenue, actually fell by over $30,000 to $1,666,187.
