Local legislators skeptical of statewide school district concept

MONTPELIER - A memo from the Agency of Education titled “Designing Our Future: A Blueprint for Transforming Vermont’s Education System” was released last week. In its 32 pages it describes a complete redesign of Vermont’s school system that would create one statewide school district, putting nearly all education-related decisions in the hands of the state, including budgets and which schools stay open. This week, local legislators and school officials expressed pointed skepticism and concern about the document.
