Vandal smashes jack-o’-lanterns, community rallies to save the day
WILMINGTON - In the days before Halloween, an old adage was resurrected: “Wilmington — where amazing happens.” The phrase was recalled by Diane Chapman in a comment on a Facebook post about smashed jack-o’-lanterns in the center of town — the apparent work of a single, dare we say, grinch. The “amazing” that Chapman was referring to wasn’t the smashed pumpkins, though. It was the community that was coming together just hours before the holiday to replace them.
