Executive order bans rainbow trout

Anti-piscene push puts popular laker in peril

DEERFIELD VALLEY- Area anglers may be in for disappointment this spring, after President Donald Trump signed an executive order banning one of the region’s favorite game fish, the rainbow trout.
In an order issued Tuesday, Trump called the colorful salmonid a “DEI fish” and banned it from all US waters.  The order also prohibits American anglers from catching rainbow trout for consumption or release, prevents the propagation of the species through fish farming, and the stocking of streams and ponds with rainbow trout fry.
Along with the executive order, Trump also authorized the capture and deportation to Canada of any rainbow trout found swimming in American waters.
“This insidious DEI fish is part of Democrats’ evil plan to make Americans accept a rainbow fish agenda,” Trump said.  “They must be removed from our lakes and streams before they’re enjoyed by Americans.”
The Vermont Attorney General’s office has joined 16 other states’ attorneys general in filing a lawsuit seeking an injunction against the Trump administration.  “We will continue to protect all Vermonters,” said Vermont Attorney General Beneficence Bark, “even if they’re fish.”
