Effects of property transfer tax changes not felt yet

Changes should reduce principal residence payments but may increase second-home payments
VERMONT- A revised property transfer tax that went into effect on August 1 may be good news for some buyers and sellers, and not so good for others.
The changes were enacted by the Legislature under Act 181 of 2024, a comprehensive land use bill. Along with the changes to property transfer tax, the bill also made changes to municipal zoning laws, Act 250, and laws regarding construction and maintenance of housing.
