Education funding reform: The weighting is the hardest part

MONTPELIER-  The Vermont Legislature’s task force on the implementation of the Pupil Weighting Factors Report held a hearing on Wednesday evening, September 8, to take public testimony on the issue.
Task force members heard from 37 parents, taxpayers,, school and other public officials, and members of the Coalition for Vermont Student Equity.  Those who testified were uniformly in favor of implementing weights recommended in the report, and called on the task force to reject proposals to use categorical aid - grants - rather than weighting to balance education funding.
