DEERFIELD VALLEY - When Act 46 was enacted in 2015, it asked school districts to voluntarily merge with one another, thus decreasing the number of individual school boards in the state. The law said districts that did not merge would be subject to involuntary mergers by the state, which would be pursued based on recommendations from the secretary of education. On June 1, those recommendations were released in a proposal from Interim Secretary of Education Heather Bouchey, Ph.D.
