DOVER - At Tuesday’s selectboard meeting, police chief Randy Johnson asked the board for its blessing to hire an officer more than a year in advance of an impending retirement. The hire will require $14,000 more than Johnson budgeted for the next year. Johnson also said he intends to retire in 2023.
The new officer will eventually fill a vacancy created by the retirement of officer Bill Manch. Johnson said Manch handed in a letter of retirement that stated he will retire from full-time duty in July 2020 but will stay on part time until August 2020.
