Elves hard at work in farm’s workshop

WILMINGTON - For Janet Boyd and her so-called elves, there’s a singular phrase that denotes the season between just before Thanksgiving and just after Christmas.
“It smells so good in here.”
The line is delivered with a deep inhale and, by Boyd’s account, sometimes even tears. It’s said as customers enter a workshop at Boyd Family Farm where, these days, fragrant balsam is trimmed and arranged — into wreaths, kissing balls, roping, and centerpieces.
