Would have been better if facts were checked

To the Editor,
Re: “Pair challenges association election process,” May 24, 2018
As a former newspaper journalist, I wonder who you interviewed for this article beside the two disgruntled candidates, Keith Herbert and Chris Cogdill? They were two out of six candidates vetted by our Chimney Hill Nominations Committee, which, by the way, includes only one board member.
Not all residents here are aware that candidates who would like to become board members of CHOA are encouraged to work on a committee before applying.  If an applicant is not accepted in their first application, this is often the reason and they are urged to apply again. I know, I wasn’t accepted on my first try for board membership and I immediately joined several committees and began to learn more about my community and its needs. Being a board member is both a privilege and a responsibility and we are aware at all times that we are serving at the request of the membership.
There are many misrepresentations in this article. Did you do any fact checking? Did you talk to a CHOA board member?  Or interview a CHOA resident?  You were  given information by Ken Spicer, our executive director.  Didn’t this make you want to dig a little further?  If so, you might have had a much more interesting story than sour grapes.
And, oh yes, about the “old boys club.”  I happen to be one of three women serving on the current five-person board and we are all volunteers who don’t deserve to be maligned.
