Report for Deerfield Valley Community Cares

To the Editor,
While there will probably be more cold weather in store for us this spring, the traditional end-of-season report for the Deerfield Valley Community Cares fund is printed in mid-April.
Many of our donors are second-home owners, who may be leaving the valley after ski season,  and we try to keep them informed on how their money was spent. So, here are the figures for the winter of 2017/2018.
From September 2017 to mid-April 2018 we spent a total of $81,107 on various types of fuel for people in our community.  That money went to help 77 families or individuals within the nine towns of the Deerfield Valley.
Those heating fuels include oil, propane, kerosene, wood pellets, firewood, and, in one case, a kerosene heater.   The allocations were as follows:  Wilmington  20,  Dover 10,  Wardsboro seven,  Jacksonville 13, Whitingham 11, Marlboro five, Halifax four,  Searsburg two,  and Readsboro five.  There will probably be a few more requests added on during the coming month, but as of this time, these figures are accurate.  We are always grateful for the continued support of our local residents and businesses as well as the second-home owners.  Those of you who contribute through family charitable foundations give us an enormous amount of help.
The members of the Propane Dover fuel buying group are our biggest single source of income, without which, we would cease to exist.  I personally am grateful to the Rotary club, for taking over the running of the Best Dam Walk and other fundraising efforts such as sending out the annual appeal letter.  It takes an enormous amount of time and cooperation to keep this fund going.
Thank you again, to all of you, for your generosity and continued support.
