Chat about vernal pools
MARLBORO- The Hogback Mountain Conservation Area and Southern Vermont Natural History Museum invite the public for an informational event on Sunday, May 13, from 12:30 to 3:30 pm, to learn about vernal pools, which are the ephemeral and vital spring breeding grounds that dot local forests at this time of year.
Participants will meet at the Southern Vermont Natural History Museum to get some introductory information from VCE’s Liza Morse, and then go out in the woods to find some vernal pools and learn how to identify frog and salamander egg masses, fairy shrimp, fingernail clams, and other pool creatures. The workshop is free. Organizers ask that those interested sign up in advance due to the limited number of slots. For more information or to RSVP visit www.hogbackvt.org or email hmca@hogbackvt.org.
