Puppets take center stage for festival

WINDHAM COUNTY - Sandglass Theater, a renowned puppet theater company, is thrilled to announce the next edition of the Puppets in the Green Mountains festival. The international 10-day puppet festival will be held from Friday, September 9, to Sunday, September 18, in various venues in Brattleboro and Putney. The festival line-up includes shows for kids, adults, and families as well as workshops and forums about arts, culture, and social causes. Now in its 11th edition, the festival will feature performances by local as well as international artists from various countries including Germany, Mexico, Jordan, and the Czech Republic. The theme for this year’s festival is “Roots and Wings.” The festival celebrates the thriving art of puppet theater as a means of enhancing perspective, generating compassion, and celebrating the human spirit.
This year, Sandglass Theater is celebrating its 40th anniversary as a force for creating innovative theater and community building.
This year’s festival offers meaningful engagement for any theater lover, social activist or those looking for art that examines roles and responsibilities in the world. Working closely with regional leaders, Sandglass Theater’s artists and directors will present a program that goes beyond the stage with the aim to foster meaningful conversations around the performances and the themes they address. Also part of the festival will be communitywide public forums, called “Access Through the Arts,” that will underscore the powerful importance of the role of the arts in addressing and inspiring personal engagement with national and international conversations.
All venues of the Puppets in the Green Mountains festival are wheelchair-accessible. Assistance can be provided for priority seating and parking. Two of the performances will be offered with ASL interpretation. Sandglass Theater welcomes people of all abilities and strives to provide programming that is inclusive and accessible to all.
