MANCHESTER - Taconic Music’s sixth annual Summer Festival concerts will kick off Saturday, June 18, at 7:30 pm at the Riley Center for the Arts at Burr and Burton.
Artistic directors Ariel Rudiakov and Joana Genova will open the season with a flourish as conductor and featured soloist, respectively, of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Concerto for Oboe and Violin in C minor, BWV 1060. The only orchestral piece of the season, the concerto introduces guest soloist Boris Baev on oboe and the young artists of Taconic’s Chamber Music Intensive. The evening will continue with pianist Drew Petersen, Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient and Taconic faculty member, performing a selection of Frédéric Chopin études and will conclude with Camille Saint-Saëns’ Piano Quartet in B-flat major, op.41, performed by Joana Genova on violin; Ariel Rudiakov, on viola; special guest Raman Ramakrishnan, on  cello; and Drew Petersen, on piano.
Additionally on Saturday morning, beginning at 10:30 am, Taconic Music will have its first of four open dress rehearsals at the Riley Center, a perfect opportunity to observe the casual interaction among all the musicians as they put the finishing touches on the program.
On Wednesday, June 22, at 7 pm, also at the Riley Center, internationally-renowned violinist Yi-Wen Jiang will lead a masterclass for CMI participants, helping them prepare for their first Young Artists concert the following week and giving the audience a behind-the-scenes look at how the musical interpretation is discussed and refined.
In addition to their live performances, all six of Taconic Music’s 2022 Faculty and Young Artists concerts at the Riley Center will be livestreamed on Taconic’s YouTube channel. Livestreams are free; donations are always welcome.
Concert seating is limited and reservations are recommended. Tickets for faculty concerts are $25 for adults and free for students and children. Reservations are encouraged. Open dress rehearsals and masterclasses are free and open to the public. Masks are requested for all indoor events.
