Enjoy sweet sounds of the dulcimer

WILMINGTON - On Saturday, August 14, at Memorial Hall, concertgoers will savor the joyful sounds of the dulcimer as part of the 30th annual August Dulcimer Daze Festival. Nationally-acclaimed performers Don Pedi and Carol Walker will be featured.
Pedi has received abundant awards and accolades, appeared in the films “The Journey of August King” and “Songcatcher,” has played music in the BBC documentary film “Appalachia: The Endless Forest,” as well as recorded and published over 15 CDs and instructional books for the dulcimer. On a live online stream from Blue Ridge Public Radio, he hosts the weekly show “Close to Home” featuring traditional, old-time, and classic folk music.
Walker has a degree in music education with majors in piano, harp and voice. Now retired, she taught in New Jersey for 32 years. In 1999, she took up the mountain dulcimer. In 2014 and 2016, she placed among the top five finalists for her performances at the renowned Winfield Dulcimer Championship in Kansas. When not performing solo, Walker performs with Wayfarers and Company, a Pennsylvania based eclectic, old-time gospel folk group, for which she adds vocals while also playing the dulcimer, upright bass, piano, melodica, and harp.
The concert is open to the public and is the grand finale of the weekend-long festival Friday, August 13, to Sunday, August 15. Festival workshops and events take place at the Mountaineer Inn in Dover.  
 Memorial Hall is located at 14 West Main Street. General admission is $15. Doors open at 7:30 pm; the concert starts at 8 pm. State of Vermont prevailing COVID-19 guidance is strictly enforced. Unvaccinated persons are strongly recommended to wear masks.
