Wellness classes resume
TOWNSHEND - The Grace Cottage Family Health & Hospital Wellness Center has restarted several wellness classes that may be appropriate for many seniors. Grace Cottage offers these free and low-cost wellness programs to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Wellness is a way of living that encourages good physical and mental health.
The Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group will meet on the first Thursday of each month, from 11 am to noon. This free, facilitated group will focus on supporting each other through the challenges of caring for people with dementia or Alzheimer’s and will be led by Grace Cottage RN care coordinator Claire Bemis. Strong bones classes will be held at three different times each week, each with a twice-a-week schedule. The choices are Mondays and Wednesdays, from 11 am to noon; Mondays and Wednesdays, from 4 to 5 pm; and Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 11 am to noon. This popular strength and balance class for adults will offer exercise in a group circle and a chance to socialize too. The cost is $3 per class. Participants must preregister by calling (802) 365-3649.
Tai chi for fall prevention will meet on Fridays from 9 to 10 am. This fun class will focus on developing balance, strength, and flexibility. Classes are offered in six-week series. Certified instructor Pam Coburn, PTA, will lead the group. The classes are free; preregistration is required. Call to save space in the next series at (802) 365-3649.
Note that currently classes are limited to 10 participants and some may be full. COVID-19 vaccination and masks are required as well as clean, soft-soled shoes.
