Walk for Animals at Retreat Farm

Participants and pets pose at the 2019 Walk for Animals.

BRATTLEBORO - The Windham County Humane Society will hold the 18th annual Walk for Animals at the Retreat Farm, Saturday, October 9. Registration begins at 10 am. At 11 am, participants and their canine companions will walk a two-mile loop through downtown. Social, well-behaved dogs who enjoy crowds are welcome to walk. All dogs must be leashed; no flexi-leads please.
The event leverages community support when participants ask friends, family, and colleagues to donate toward their walk. A pledge sheet can be downloaded at windhamcountyhumane.org or people can donate online at www.gofundme.com/f/18th-annual-walk-for-animals. The top 10 fundraisers win prizes donated by local businesses, and all participants who raise $50 or more will get a dog bandana and an insulated lunch bag.
Prizes include a one-year household membership to the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center; a $50 gift card to Burrows Specialized Sports; three four-star car washes from Burton Car Wash; dinner for two at the Chesterfield Inn or Gringo Jacks; a $250 gift card for One Stop Country Pet Supply; a $25 gift card to Sam’s Outdoor Outfitters; an appetizer bowl from Vermont Bowl Company; and a $50 gift card to Walker Farm.
In 2020, the WCHS helped 2,000 animals, serving more animals than ever despite the pandemic. The shelter also offers basic care that keeps pets home and healthy. To date this year they have provided 765 rabies vaccines, 696 distemper vaccines, and 569 spay and neuter surgeries to owned animals and community cats.
