Spotlight series returns
BRATTLEBORO - Latchis Arts’ Spotlight Series returns in June with the theme “Portraits of the Artist.”
Spotlight is a curated series featuring films on a different theme each month. Films in June are shown on Saturdays and Sundays at 1 pm at the Latchis. Admission is by suggested donation of $10; no one will be turned away.
June’s series features films which center on artists in one way or another. Latchis Arts presents the series in partnership with the River Gallery School, which has set up a free community art project in the Latchis Theatre lobby. Stop by anytime the theater is open or while waiting for the movie and use the materials provided to make a flower petal to hang on the flower wall in the theater lobby.
On Saturday and Sunday, June 11 and 12, the series will continue with “The Painter and The Thief,” a documentary about a Czech artist who develops an unlikely friendship with the man who stole two of her paintings. On Saturday and Sunday, June 18 and 19, the series features “Frida,” the 2002 biopic about Frida Kahlo, starring Salma Hayek. The series concludes on Saturday and Sunday, June 25 and 26, with “The Unicorn Store,” featuring, directed by, and starring Brie Larson, about a whimsical painter who takes a humdrum office job after failing out of art school and then gets a chance to fulfill her lifelong dream of owning a unicorn.
Proceeds from Spotlight Series films benefit the nonprofit Latchis Arts. For more information visit latchis.com.
