Spooky writing workshops tackle ghosts, monsters
BRATTLEBORO - Hooker-Dunham Theatre is offering two spooky writing workshops this October, hosted by GennaRose Nethercott.
The first, “Ghost Lab,” will take place on Sunday, October 24, at 2 pm. Like many people, ghosts spent more than a year confined to their home, floating from room to room, rarely stepping outside. The outside world seemed distant and untouchable. History swept by. Except they’ve been doing this for centuries.
Stories about haunted houses have been examining domestic claustrophobia for years. It’s time to learn from the pros. In this two-hour workshop participants will write spooky tales, dissect how to build the perfect ghost story, and, of course, create a few phantoms of their own to keep company.
The second, “Monster Lab,” will take place on Sunday, October 31, at 2 pm. What defines a monster? Dreadful deeds, claws and teeth, and supernatural strangeness? Are monsters villains to be vanquished or simply misunderstood outsiders?
Spend Halloween encountering a few of literature’s and folklore’s wildest beasts and examining what makes a paranormal creature tick. Then, use those tools to invent new monsters.
Workshops cost $40 each. Proof of vaccination and masking required. Bring a notebook and a writing utensil. To register email firstname.lastname@example.org. Visit https://www.hookerdunham.org/team-4 for more information.
