Halloween events begin Saturday

WILMINGTON - There are a series of fun community events planned downtown for Halloween this year.
First is the second annual Trunk O’ Treat held at the Wilmington Antique and Flea Market on Saturday, October 23. The event runs from 5 to 8 pm, with setup at 4 pm. Younger kids are invited to come through at 5 pm and older kids at 6 pm. The rain date is Saturday, October 30.
Wilmington Works and Shaw’s are sponsoring a jack-o’-lantern display in Riverbank Park. Students at Twin Valley Middle High School and Twin Valley Elementary School afterschool programs will carve pumpkins.
The public is also invited to carve pumpkins and drop them off; pumpkins can be dropped off at Riverbank Park any time on Friday, October 29. The display will be lit that evening.
On Saturday, October 30, the Wilmington Wags group sponsors a Halloween dog parade. Leashed pets in costume should bring their humans to the Pettee Memorial Library lawn at 3 pm. There will be treats for them and humans. The group will parade down sidewalks to the end of West Main Street and can choose to continue over Reardon Bridge and back along the walking trail to the library via Shafter Street, or turn around in the West Main Street lot. Humans, bring a pup, get some treats, and get connected to this group working to make Wilmington more dog-friendly.
On Halloween night, Sunday October 31, downtown businesses will be open to host trick-or-treaters from 4 to 6. Wear a mask (not just the spooky kind) while in indoor or crowded outdoor spaces.
