Church holds service with pets

WILMINGTON - St. Mary’s in the Mountains, at 13 East Main Street, invites both humans and animals to its annual celebration of all of God’s creation during the “Blessing of the Animals” service, on Sunday, October 3, beginning at 10 am.
While it may seem unusual for a Sunday morning within the walls of a traditional church, the people of St. Mary’s are celebrating St. Francis Day by inviting all neighbors to come to service, and to bring along their four-footed, two-footed, furred, finned, feathered or other animal family members and companions. Participants are cordially invited to bring their pets, under appropriate control of their human keepers; a photo of a pet, whether alive or departed; or a stuffed animal representing a loved animal, to be blessed during the service.  A collection will be made for the Windham County Humane Society.
St. Mary’s will follow all appropriate health-related practices, and masks will be available at the door. Learn more at www.smmvt.org.
