Five artists selected as juried show winners

BRATTLEBORO - Five artists were selected as winners of the annual Vermont Pastel Society juried member show now on display at Vermont Artisan Designs.
“Free Ukraine,” a pastel by Alla Potashinikova Hiser, of Charlotte, won the $300 first prize. “Snow Patterns,” by Katrina Thorstensen, of Norwich, was awarded second place and $200. “Ocean Beauty,” by Linda Masten, of Bennington, took third and a $100 prize. “Oh, My Darling,” a painting of clementines by Cristine Kossow, of Middlebury, won the $75 Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod award. Last, Cath Stockbridge, of Brattleboro, won the Mallory Lake Memorial Award for her painting “Deer in the Clearing #3.”
VPS artists submitted images of nearly 60 paintings, of which 33 were chosen by two nationally respected jurors - Liz Haywood-Sullivan and Michael Chesley Johnson - to be included in the 2022 show. The pastels were judged by a third nationally recognized pastelist - Dawn Emerson.
