Year of the Book engages students
VERMONT - The Children’s Literacy Foundation is now accepting applications for the Year of the Book program. The grant program provides $25,000 in author and storyteller visits and workshops; family literacy events; special literacy programs; new books for classrooms, school libraries, and public libraries; and ten new books for each child to choose for themselves. The goals are the Year of the Book are to supplement schools’ existing literacy efforts, increase enthusiasm for reading and writing, provide access to high-quality books, engage families in literacy, and create a community-wide culture of literacy.
This year the Year of the Book has already been awarded to 13 schools, including two small schools for a pilot program. CLif kicked off the Year of the Book across New Hampshire and Vermont with storytelling and book giveaways. Each school will have a full school year of literacy programming and new books.
Year of the Book applications are due Wednesday, March 9, 2022, but they need to include letters of support so don’t delay getting started. Learn more and apply at clifonline.org. Contact Meredith at meredith@clifonline.org with any questions.
