Winterplace will be better than ever with help of community grant

Volunteers set up decorations for last year’s Winterplace
WILMINGTON - Wilmington Works has won a $4,000 community grant as part of AARP Vermont’s Winter Placemaking Grant program. The program encourages demonstration projects that create public spaces and streets that are safe and accessible for everyone.
Wilmington Works will use the $4,000 to support weekly winter programming, Winterplace, for seniors and families with small children. Funds will also be used to support park improvements - adjacent to the Old School Community Center - which will include lighting, heat, outdoor recreation, and signage to increase accessibility during the winter months.
Now in its fourth year, the Winter Placemaking grant program’s objectives are to enhance perceptions and attitudes toward community change; recognize how placemaking and community design influence successful aging, equity, and health while enhancing overall livability; and give participants an expanded tool kit to draw from to build healthier more vibrant public spaces during the winter months.
