SPRINGFIELD, MA - Whitingham, VT, resident Elizabeth Arel performed in the spring musical “Chicago” at Western New England University on Friday and Saturday, April 1 and 2. The dazzling and satirical “Chicago” gave the audience a glimpse into how fame, justice, and the media machine were portrayed in the roaring ‘20s. Filled with captivating performances of hit songs such as “All That Jazz,” “Cell Block Tango,” and “Razzle Dazzle” the sold-out show’s production ended Stageless Players season on a high note.
In her first production with Stageless Players, Arel delivered an outstanding performance as Mama Morton. She had been in multiple productions in high school through the New England Youth Theater, including “As You Like It,” as Rosalind; “Sweet Charity,” as Herman; “The Drowsy Chaperone,” as Trix; and “Into the Woods,” as Lucinda.
The production, with music by John Kander and book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, was directed by Alexandria Escribano, choreographed by Aileen Merino Terzi and Karen McMahon, with musical direction by Debi Salli. Arel, who is working toward a BA in psychology, was excited to be a part of a timeless show with such a fantastic cast and crew.
