Whitingham Historical Society hosts Colonial Dames
WHITINGHAM - On Tuesday, July 12, the Society of Colonial Dames of Vermont met at the Whitingham Historical Society Museum. The dames came from all over Vermont. Stella Stevens, historical society president, whose family in Whitingham dates from 1826, spoke of the museum’s local treasures, and gave anecdotes from her family’s rich history. Trustee Betsy McKinley shared a story about the monument 100 yards from the museum marking the birthplace of Brigham Young.
The Colonial Dames, a national organization, is dedicated to researching and preserving the legacy of women who played key roles in the nation’s early history. The Whitingham Historical Society Museum is open to the public Sundays from 2 to 4 pm.
